Liao Guoqin: Rational Lubrication Will Promote the Green Development of the Industry

According to statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to December 2011 China's lubricant output reached 8.2665 million tonnes, up 7.01 percent year on year. Compared with the previous two years, the growth rate of China's total lubricant output has slowed, but competition in high-end products has intensified, and high-end oils with long drain intervals are increasingly favored by the market. Experts point out that in 2012 the lubricant industry will usher in a year of green transformation, and rational lubrication will become the general trend.

As a leading enterprise in the lubricant industry, PetroChina Lubricant Company has in recent years continuously stepped up its promotion of the professional oil-use concept of rational lubrication. Its General Manager, Dr. Liao Guoqin, points out that lubricating oil is a flowing component on a car body: the core components of a vehicle, including the engine, transmission and wheel hubs, all rely on lubricating oil for lubrication and maintenance, and whether lubrication is rational directly affects driving safety and a vehicle's service life. At present, improper use of lubricants has already caused huge losses for vehicles and consumers. In 2012, Kunlun Lubricant will promote the concept of rational oil use in a variety of ways. First, by fully supporting two platforms - Formula Student China and the China Heart Top Ten Engines selection - it will send lubrication experts from Kunlun Lubricant's R&D center into campuses to explain rational lubrication knowledge to students. In addition, Kunlun Lubricant will upgrade its official website and open a microblog account to communicate directly with consumers and promote knowledge about scientific oil selection and oil use, so as to encourage consumers to change their lubrication concepts and methods and thereby promote the green development of the industry.

For a long time, as a leading brand in the lubricant industry, Kunlun Lubricant has based itself on consumer needs, insisted on advocating the oil-use concepts of rational oil use and rational lubrication, called for maintenance instead of repair, and been committed to promoting professional lubrication concepts. In 2010, in order to guide and standardize the scientific and rational selection of lubricants by automotive enterprise designers, maintenance personnel and end users, PetroChina Lubricant Company and the Society of Automotive Engineers of China jointly compiled the Commercial Vehicle Lubrication Guidelines. The publication of these guidelines filled the gap in China whereby technicians engaged in commercial vehicle production and maintenance, as well as commercial vehicle users, had no scientific basis for correctly selecting lubricants, and pioneered the practice of academia leading technical specifications. At present, Kunlun Lubricant is studying and formulating lubrication guidelines for passenger vehicles together with the Society of Automotive Engineers of China and other relevant units, and the release of these guidelines will also greatly advance the popularization and promotion of the concepts of scientific oil use and rational oil use among passenger vehicle users.

Dr. Liao Guoqin said that in the future Kunlun Lubricant will speed up the adjustment of its product mix and service methods in response to market needs, and will promote the renewal of lubrication concepts and the transformation of lubrication methods across the whole industry, so as to meet the real needs of the healthy development of China's automotive industry.
