Kunlun Lubricants Additives Business Unit: Accumulating Strength to Lead the Future

Today, the 18th China International Lubricants and Application Technology Exhibition entered its second day. This exhibition focuses deeply on the lubricant industry segment and brings together outstanding domestic and international brands across the upstream, midstream and downstream of the lubricant industry chain. As one of the organizers of the exhibition, today we first follow the camera to learn about the Kunlun Lubricants additives exhibition area, so as to further lift the veil on the Kunlun Lubricants Additives Business Unit.
The founding year of the Additives Business Unit: an important strategic step toward the market
In 2017, PetroChina's lubricant company selected its best personnel to establish the Additives Business Unit, to coordinate and direct the company's additives R&D, production and sales in a unified way, and to devote itself to raising the overall level of domestic lubricant additives and contributing to "Created in China".
The additives business is mainly made up of two major R&D centers in Lanzhou and Dalian, two additives production plants in Lanzhou and Taicang, and a sales and service network covering the whole country. The establishment of the Additives Business Unit is an important step for PetroChina Kunlun Lubricants additives toward the market, effectively integrating all aspects of PetroChina's lubricant additive business. At present, PetroChina's lubricant additive R&D team has more than 40 people, bringing together elite R&D researchers engaged in additive R&D in all fields.
Kunlun Lubricants additives products bloom in profusion
The additives exhibited this time are of a wide variety, most of them appearing at an exhibition for the first time; among them the RHY4208A gear oil additive package, the RHY4026 industrial oil additive package and the RHY803B poly-alpha-olefin pour point depressant aroused extremely high interest among visitors.
RHY4208A gear oil additive package is a general-purpose gear oil additive package whose oil properties and performance meet the requirements of the API GL-5 specification. Most importantly, its phosphorus content is markedly lower than that of similar additive packages at home and abroad, making it a low-phosphorus product, and it contains no heavy metals or chlorides, meeting environmental protection requirements.
RHY4026 industrial oil additive package is formulated with high-quality sulfur- and phosphorus-containing additives, rust and corrosion inhibitors and friction modifiers. The package uses a system free of active sulfur, giving the oil good anti-scuffing and extreme pressure properties and achieving environmental friendliness, cleanliness and ashlessness. It features good versatility and can be used to formulate more than 10 kinds of industrial oils, simplifying procurement, storage, transport and production management.
The three major marine oils formulated with the RHY3533 cylinder oil additive package, the RHY3522A/RHY3522B medium-speed engine additive package and the RHY3511 system oil additive package respectively obtained product certifications from the two major marine engine builders MAN B&W and Wärtsilä, reaching advanced international levels and also winning wide recognition from domestic and international customers.
RHY3521A/RHY3521B medium-speed engine oil additive package is a medium-speed engine oil additive package that has been promoted and used for nearly 20 years; it is composed of high-quality high-base-number detergents, dispersants and antioxidant and anti-wear agents. Medium-speed trunk piston diesel engine oils formulated with RHY3521A and RHY3521B have relatively excellent acid neutralization, detergency and dispersancy and antioxidant and anti-corrosion performance and can extend the oil change interval of medium-speed engine oils; the products have years of experience of use at domestic shipping companies such as COSCO and China Shipping, with good feedback from customers.
In addition, RHY803B poly-alpha-olefin pour point depressant also attracted much attention. RHY803B poly-alpha-olefin pour point depressant is a lubricant additive product made from alpha-olefins and other raw materials through refining, polymerization and other processes. The product is produced under strict quality control procedures and, after rigorous testing and evaluation, meets the corresponding technical indicator requirements; it is suitable for formulating various industrial oils and internal combustion engine oils.
Integrating project R&D to lead scientific and technological creation
Zhai Yuekui, Deputy General Manager of the Kunlun Lubricants Additives Business Unit, said that the company's establishment of the Additives Business Unit is also an important measure to increase market-oriented operation and long-term development of the additives business segment, effectively integrating R&D, production and sales and enhancing the core competitiveness of the additives business. PetroChina's lubricant additives were previously mainly for internal use; after the establishment of the Additives Business Unit, efforts will be stepped up to develop and serve the external market. Launching the "Kunlun Lubricants Additives" brand is an intrinsic requirement of PetroChina lubricants' grand "3369" blueprint and an important measure in implementing "Made in China 2025". PetroChina's lubricant company aims in the future to achieve coordinated development of five major businesses – oils, additives, greases, fluids and vehicle accessories – and additives are a very important business segment.
The first step for the Kunlun Lubricants Additives Business Unit is to base itself on the domestic market, strengthen cooperation with private enterprises, activate the intangible assets built up by the two R&D centers over many years, increase the variety of single additives, improve single-additive quality, enhance the core competitiveness of the additives business and create a first-class domestic additives brand.
