Kunlun Lubricants' R&D Keeps Pace with the Times and Looks to the Future – An Exclusive Interview with Jin Zhiliang, Deputy Director of the Evaluation Center of the PetroChina Lanzhou Lubricant Research and Development Center

The real-vehicle testing for the Kunlun Lubricants Cup "China Heart" 2016 Annual Top Ten Engines selection was successfully completed at the Beijing Racer track. Fourteen shortlisted engines from 16 automakers were given a comprehensive test by the expert judges on site. During the real-vehicle testing, Jin Zhiliang, Deputy Director of the Evaluation Center of the PetroChina Lanzhou Lubricant Research and Development Center, gave an interview.
Q: Which major automakers does Kunlun Lubricants currently work closely with?
A: As a representative national brand under PetroChina's lubricant company, Kunlun Lubricants has established long-term cooperative relationships with FAW, Dongfeng, SAIC, BAIC, JAC and other automakers. At present, Kunlun Lubricants has been designated by the above automakers as factory-fill oil and service oil for their vehicles.
Q: In the process of cooperating with automakers, what role and help does the R&D center provide in engine design and production?
A: As the R&D unit of Kunlun Lubricants, the Lanzhou Lubricant R&D Center is responsible for providing reasonable lubrication solutions for engines. Lubricant is one of the components of an engine, and the R&D center selects the best technical solution for engine design, providing a strong guarantee for progress in engine technology.
Q: As environmental protection and emission regulations become ever more stringent, the role lubricants play in engines will become more prominent. As a lubricant company, what targeted recommendations do you have?

A: As environmental protection and emission regulations become increasingly strict, lubricant companies in particular need to keep pace with the times and provide society with quality lubricant products and professional technical services, focus on the development of energy-saving premium lubricants, and pay more attention to the influence of lubricants on automotive emission after-treatment systems, so as to contribute to energy conservation and emission reduction.
Q: With the development of new energy vehicles, hybrid and pure electric vehicles will gradually increase in the future. Will this phenomenon pose a challenge to lubricant companies? Have we already begun to tackle these problems?
A: In the future, hybrids and new energy vehicles will be a very severe test for lubricant companies. At present Kunlun Lubricants is working with domestic automakers on the research and development of oils for new energy vehicle hybrid systems, and we are fully prepared for the challenges of future new energy vehicles.
