Lubricants are a technology-intensive industry: technical specifications directly determine product performance and, in turn, a company's standing in the market. In recent years, domestic lubricant enterprises represented by Kunlun have stepped up research and innovation, continually setting new technical benchmarks, keeping pace with foreign brands in the high-end market and emerging as the leading brand among China's lubricant makers.
Kunlun Lubricants is a brand under PetroChina Lubricant Company. From the outset, the company systematically consolidated its scattered research institutes and research capabilities, ultimately forming a research structure of two research institutes and one post-doctoral workstation, ensuring more concentrated research resources and a more specialized division of labour among its institutes. In addition, Kunlun Lubricants has carried out in-depth exchanges and cooperation with well-known enterprises and academic institutions such as Lanzhou University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the PLA Logistics Engineering College, the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in the United States, AVL of Europe, Nippon Oil, Siemens and ABB, keeping Kunlun at the forefront of international research.
Backed by this formidable research capability, Kunlun has strengthened its innovation efforts and continually set new technical benchmarks. In the nearly eight years since its founding, PetroChina Lubricant Company has had several hundred research projects pass acceptance review, with more than 80% of the results commercialized; it also holds dozens of Chinese and US patents, and Kunlun Lubricants has obtained quality certification from China's authoritative certification bodies, the China Fangyuan Certification Centre and the China Quality Certification Centre. Supported by such strong technical capabilities, Kunlun products have improved substantially in performance, and many new products have been developed to fill gaps in the domestic market.
In 2008, the Kunlun-branded series of greases and lubricants developed by PetroChina Lubricant Company specifically for wind power equipment passed application tests and operational monitoring at domestic wind farms, with some performance indicators surpassing those of international reference products. This marked the birth of China's first proprietary series of lubricants and greases dedicated to wind power equipment, filling a domestic gap and lowering the lubricant consumption costs of China's wind power generation.
Against the backdrop of China's vigorous promotion of ethanol fuel, PetroChina Lubricant Company strengthened the compatibility of its Kunlun Tianlai lubricant products with ethanol-blended fuel engines, giving Tianlai excellent detergency and dispersancy, anti-wear and anti-corrosion performance and oxidation stability. It effectively prevents acidic substances such as acetic acid generated by ethanol combustion from corroding and rusting the engine, providing powerful anti-wear protection.
In addition, Kunlun has been designated as the snow-vehicle oil for the 21st Kunlun scientific expedition to the Antarctic ice sheet, and has passed certification by well-known automakers such as BMW of Germany, Volvo and General Motors...
