Along with the continuous optimization of turbocharged gasoline direct injection (TGDI) engine technology, engine loads and power performance have also steadily improved. In China, nearly 30% of the cars produced in 2017 were equipped with TGDI engines, and by 2022 that proportion will double again. However, some vehicles equipped with TGDI engines suffered cylinder scoring and bearing seizure without warning during normal driving, and some even suffered severe structural damage such as piston or piston connecting rod fracture.
Such failures may be caused by low-speed pre-ignition. So what is low-speed pre-ignition? Low-speed pre-ignition is an occasional pre-ignition phenomenon in GDI or TGDI engines under low-speed, high-torque operating conditions. This phenomenon is not what is commonly called knock: once pre-ignition occurs, with the piston moving upward and the enormous explosion pressure propagating downward, the engine’s normal operation is disrupted and large pressure oscillations occur, very easily causing fatal damage to the engine.
The causes of low-speed pre-ignition are relatively complex, but one point of consensus is that old oil formulations can no longer adapt to TGDI engines and cannot provide effective comprehensive protection for them; how to deal with the resulting problems has become a focus of widespread industry attention. So is there a suitable lubricant that can suppress the possibility of low-speed pre-ignition? Recently, Kunlun Lubricant, known as “military-grade quality, a pillar of the great nation,” is about to comprehensively upgrade its gasoline engine oil products, which will greatly reduce the occurrence of low-speed pre-ignition in turbocharged direct-injection engines.
Kunlun Lubricant invested a great deal of time and effort and ultimately innovatively developed the new Tianrun with TGDI protection technology. The core TGDI protection technology of this product has been certified by many mainstream automaker brands and can bring “meticulous” lasting protection to TGDI engines. It is reported that the Kunlun Tianrun series has been brand-new upgraded in the product itself, making traditional lubricant functions such as wear resistance, cleanliness and anti-oxidation more outstanding. In R&D, many technological innovations have been achieved, fully meeting the oil needs of different vehicle families; the upgraded series products have clearer differentiated positioning, aiming to raise the market share of high-end products, pursuing excellence, making the best even better, and stably holding the leading position amid fierce competition.
As a representative of outstanding state-owned brands, Kunlun Lubricant has always been committed to filling domestic gaps in various high-end products: its high-speed rail gear oil replaced Japanese products, filling a domestic gap, and was successfully applied in “Fuxing” EMU trains; its 120,000-kilometer long-life heavy-duty diesel engine oil went on the market across the board; its oil specially for industrial robots reaches international advanced levels; and its transformer oil became the only designated oil for the world’s first ±1100 kV transmission project. This time, we look forward to Tianrun lubricant once again bringing surprises to the world and to Chinese people by solving the low-speed pre-ignition problem.
On March 22, a Kunlun Tianrun product upgrade launch conference titled “Quality at a New Height” will open, at which the upgraded full line of Kunlun Lubricant products will be grandly unveiled. Are the new products’ advantages worth looking forward to? Let us wait and see!
