China Innovation Alliance for the Development of Chinese Engine Lubricant Standards Established

A few days ago, at the strong initiative of PetroChina's lubricant company and organized jointly by the Chinese Society for Internal Combustion Engines and the Society of Automotive Engineers of China, the "China Innovation Alliance for the Development of Chinese Engine Lubricant Standards" (hereinafter referred to as the "Innovation Alliance") was signed and established in Shanghai.
FAW Group, Sinopec, the China Automotive Research Center, Dongfeng Motor, Weichai Power, BAIC Foton Daimler, JAC, Ruifeng Additives, Handi Lubricants, Tianhe Additives and other vehicle, lubricant and additive development companies responded positively and joined the alliance.
It is reported that China's automobile sales in 2015 reached 24.598 million units, exceeding 20 million for the third consecutive year and once again ranking first in the world. However, China's engine lubricant standards have followed those of the American Petroleum Institute since the 1980s. As the rate of independent technology in China's engines, especially diesel engines, has continued to rise, the contradiction of domestically produced vehicles using oils required by foreign technical specifications has become increasingly acute.
First-class enterprises make standards. As the initiator of the alliance, PetroChina's lubricant company will shoulder this historic mission and strive to ensure that Chinese engines can use oils of China's own specification as soon as possible!
The core objective of the Innovation Alliance is to strive, within five years, to study China's currently representative engine models and develop matching independent lubricant standards, thereby changing the current situation in which China's own engines have to adapt to foreign oil technical requirements. Especially at a time when the level of independent development of commercial heavy-duty diesel engines is steadily improving, developing China's own standards can not only support engine technology development, but also greatly reduce the cost of building and maintaining lubricant test benches.
At the signing ceremony, the four engine-industry participants – FAW Group, Dongfeng Motor Group, Weichai Power and BAIC Foton Daimler – made clear that they would provide test engine models for evaluating diesel engine oil performance. The meeting also announced that the alliance plans to launch China's first national diesel engine oil standard in 2019.
