Lubricating a hydropower 'super project' to support green, low-carbon energy development.

Recently, Kunlun Lubricants successfully supplied KG/PS460 gear oil to the navigation bureau of the Goupitan Hydropower Station in Guizhou—another successful application since Kunlun gear oil was first installed on the ship lift of the Goupitan Hydropower Station navigation project in 2018. This marks that Kunlun lubricating oils have ensured the safe and stable operation of the Goupitan Hydropower Station for as long as six years, providing solid support for an indispensable lubrication link in the national hydropower engineering industry chain.
The construction of the Goupitan Hydropower Station navigation project is rarely matched in difficulty anywhere in the world and set six world records. Known as a 'museum of ship lifts' and an 'aerial waterway' on the Wu River, it is a veritable 'super project'. According to local natural conditions and construction requirements, the project adopts a three-stage vertical ship lift scheme, consisting of upstream and downstream approach channels, three vertical ship lifts and two intermediate channels, with a total route length of 2,306 meters. The first and third stages use the ship-chamber-undocking vertical ship lift, while the second stage uses a fully balanced vertical ship lift. A ship lift is a navigation facility that uses mechanical devices to raise and lower vessels so as to overcome the water-level drop along a waterway, and is therefore called a 'ship elevator'. The accuracy, stability and safety of the ship lift's operation come from strict requirements on every detail, and gear oil is one of them.
Because the ship lift of the Goupitan Hydropower Station navigation project operates under complex and demanding conditions, higher requirements are placed on the performance of lubricating oil products. In April 2023, at the end of the first oil-use cycle for the Goupitan Hydropower Station's equipment, in response to the new lubrication needs raised by the navigation bureau, Kunlun Lubricants' Southwest Branch, together with the Lanzhou R&D Center, carried out multiple technical exchanges with the navigation bureau of the Goupitan Hydropower Station, introducing in detail the performance and advantages of the Kunlun KG/PS460 industrial gear oil used in the station's three-stage ship lift and providing oil monitoring data and equipment operating-condition analysis reports for the product after five years of application. In the end, with its technical strength it once again won the navigation bureau's trust in Kunlun Lubricants products; in addition, Kunlun Lubricants' R&D team repeatedly went to the site of the Goupitan Hydropower Station navigation project equipment to gain an in-depth understanding of the lubrication needs of the ship lift reducers and, relying on its professionalism in the field of equipment lubrication and through rigorous oil performance analysis and experimental verification, formulated a sound cost-optimization plan that won high recognition from the customer and also laid a good foundation for obtaining this supply order from the navigation bureau of the Goupitan Hydropower Station.
