On April 23, a press conference on "Building Chinese Standards, Safeguarding Chinese Speed - Two Years of Kunlun Lubricant's Independently Innovative Gearbox Oil Technology Safeguarding High-Speed Rail" was held at the China Railway Museum. At the press conference, Kunlun Lubricant introduced for the first time the core technology, R&D history and practical achievements of Kunlun Lubricant high-speed rail gearbox oil, the "first independently developed oil for high-speed rail".

Kunlun Lubricant's first independently developed oil for high-speed rail
China's Fuxing train, running at 350 km/h, is the fastest high-speed train in the world, and behind that speed lies continuous technological progress. Gearbox lubricating oil is recognised worldwide as one of the most technically demanding parts of high-speed rail, and for a long time lubrication technology in this area was blockaded by developed countries. In addition, China's vast territory and complex geographical environment and climate place even higher demands on high-speed rail gearbox lubricating oil.
Xiao Hongwei, Party Secretary and General Manager of PetroChina Lubricant Company, said: "Thanks to decades of deep technological accumulation, Kunlun Lubricant has successfully independently developed high-speed rail gearbox oil. This is the only independently developed product in China and the first to pass a 600,000-kilometre test; it broke the monopoly of foreign products and achieved the catching up with and surpassing of Chinese gearbox oil."

Sun Shuhao, Deputy General Manager of PetroChina Lubricant Company, shared with everyone the results of two years of safeguarding by "China's first high-speed rail oil": "Since February 25, 2017, Kunlun Lubricant high-speed rail gearbox oil has been used on Fuxing train sets, and it has now been two full years, with a single train running smoothly for two oil change cycles reaching 1.2 million kilometres and a total safeguarding mileage of 50 million kilometres. With stable quality and excellent technology, Kunlun Lubricant has withstood the test of the world's fastest high-speed rail speed of 350 km/h."
At the press conference, Fu Xisheng, Chief Scientist of Kunlun Lubricant, introduced the core technology of Kunlun Lubricant high-speed rail gearbox oil. Kunlun Lubricant invented the world's unique full transmission system lubricant composite agent and the special lubricant for the Fuxing high-speed train, and obtained US patent authorisation. Innovating further on the basis of the world's two most advanced technologies, it achieved compatibility between the two major lubrication technologies and solved the difficulty of maintaining oil film strength in high-speed bearings, becoming in the truest sense the world's first independently developed high-speed rail oil. It is understood that Kunlun Lubricant has persisted in independent innovation for more than thirty years, and the core technology of high-speed rail gearbox oil, "extreme-pressure anti-wear gear oil, composite agent preparation and industrial application", won a National Technological Invention Award (second class) in 2009, the only National Technological Invention Award in China's lubricant field to date.

Technology leading the world, the earliest to start in the industry
Kunlun Lubricant high-speed rail gearbox lubricating oil has witnessed the independent development of China's high-speed rail and reflects the innovative strength of China's independent R&D. At the press conference, Sun Shuhao, Deputy General Manager of PetroChina Lubricant Company, donated samples of the first batch of independently developed high-speed rail gearbox lubricating oil to the China Railway Museum. Li Fuzeng, Deputy Party Secretary and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of the China Railway Museum, received the samples and said: "The first batch of high-speed rail gearbox lubricating oil samples independently developed and produced in China will be permanently collected and displayed at the China Railway Museum, showing all visitors the independent strength of the motherland's cutting-edge technology and the powerful support behind China's high-speed rail."
As early as 2011, PetroChina Lubricant Company and Beijing Jiaotong University established a joint laboratory, the earliest to start research on high-speed rail gearbox lubrication. At the press conference, the expansion of the "Joint Laboratory for High-Speed Railway Bearing Lubrication Technology" was also announced. Professor Zhang Yihuang, doctoral supervisor at Beijing Jiaotong University and Director of the High-Speed Rail Joint Laboratory, said: "Results can only speak for the past. Train safety and safeguarding Chinese speed is a systematic project. This time Beijing Jiaotong University, PetroChina, CRRC units, the Luoyang Bearing Research Institute and Renben Group have come together to improve the data collection system, strengthen data flow, technical exchange and personnel cooperation, and finally build an accurate mathematical model that will better serve China's high-speed rail and continue to make historic contributions to safeguarding Chinese speed."
