Scientific Guidance for Use: "Guidelines for Commercial Vehicle Lubrication" Officially Released

On November 17, 2010, China's first "Guidelines for Commercial Vehicle Lubrication," which systematically guides the use of commercial vehicle lubricant products, was officially released. Its introduction will fill the gap in China's lack of a scientific basis for guiding commercial vehicle manufacturing and maintenance technicians and commercial vehicle users in correctly selecting lubricants, and will guide users in standardized lubricant use. The organizer, SAE-China, together with PetroChina Kunlun Lubricant Company, which undertook the research and verification work for the guidelines, and senior executives of mainstream domestic commercial vehicle manufacturers invited to attend, witnessed the release of the guidelines. It is understood that the guidelines were initiated and formulated by SAE-China, with drafting work carried out by the Lanzhou Lubricant R&D Center of PetroChina Kunlun Lubricant Company. The guidelines are divided into four major parts: engine oils, driveline oils, greases and specialty fluids. They provide detailed explanation of the types, quality grades and grades/designations of commercial vehicle lubricating oils, greases and fluids, and offer corresponding guidance on the use, management and maintenance of lubricant products. The Lanzhou Lubricant R&D Center of PetroChina Kunlun Lubricant, which was responsible for drafting the guidelines, completed the research and verification work for all items in just over a year. This shows that the R&D capability of the PetroChina Lanzhou Lubricant R&D Center has reached the international advanced level. As organizer of the event, Mr. Fu Yuwu, Executive Vice Chairman of SAE-China, noted at the meeting: "Generally speaking, very important historical events take place on unusual days. For China's auto industry, today is a special day, because today SAE-China and PetroChina Kunlun Lubricant jointly drafted and completed an industry technical standard. This is another first for China's auto industry, and its significance will become more evident over time." As the drafting unit of these guidelines, General Manager Liao Guoqin of PetroChina Kunlun Lubricant Company also stressed: "Formulating the 'Automotive Lubrication Guidelines' is an important measure by SAE-China and our company in our commitment to the automotive production and service industries and to improving China's automotive lubrication situation, and it is another fulfillment by Kunlun of its commitment to society with 'care service as the core value.' At the same time, as a local company, Kunlun has always been committed to producing lubricant products better suited to Chinese operating conditions. In this year's 2010 spring lubricant customer satisfaction survey conducted in the industry, Kunlun Lubricant won first place in satisfaction with its solid strengths." At present, because competition in China's lubricant market is extremely fierce and sales channels are highly complex, counterfeit lubricants flood the market and lubricants are used in various non-standard ways. The release of these guidelines will play a crucial role in regulating the entire industry.
