Innovation-Driven Development, Building the Future Together — 2018 China Lubrication Technology Forum Concludes Successfully

On September 19, 2018, the two-day China Lubrication Technology Forum concluded successfully. This forum was hosted by Lubricants magazine of PetroChina Lubricant Company and is one of the most authoritative events in the lubrication industry, arousing great attention from the industry and the public.
27 in-depth speeches, nearly 400 experts attending
This forum showcased the R&D achievements of China’s lubricant industry and, addressing the industry’s existing problems, proposed the future direction of China’s lubrication industry in the new era — refining technology, elevating development concepts and realizing ecological coordinated development of the whole industry chain. During the forum experts expressed their views one after another and took an active part in discussion, creating a lively atmosphere.
Huge popularity. This forum attracted nearly 400 industry experts from 153 enterprises worldwide, including leaders from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the China Automotive Engineering Society and OEM manufacturers, and people from many fields such as domestic and international lubricant companies, automakers, equipment manufacturers and well-known universities and research institutes at home and abroad; the number of participating enterprises above designated size and the number of representatives set a record for previous forums, becoming a major highlight of this forum.

Fruitful results. Within two days, more than 27 experts expressed their insights, covering market and trends, vehicle oils, industrial oils and evaluation technologies, solutions and many other aspects. This forum arranged 27 reports in total and collected 102 papers, building a grand blueprint for the industry’s future development.

Responding to market demand: Kunlun Lubricant demonstrates its technical advantages in multiple dimensions
As a leading brand in China’s lubricant industry, Kunlun Lubricant actively played a driving role at this technical forum; three experts — Jin Zhiliang, Guan Fei and Cheng Liang — gave special reports on technical R&D, solutions and evaluation technology, and their professional technical theories sparked heated discussion among the experts present.

Jin Zhiliang, senior engineer at the PetroChina Lanzhou Lubricant Research and Development Center, gave a special report titled “Modern Passenger Car Engine Lubrication Requirements and Kunlun Lubricant Solutions.” Jin Zhiliang noted that after engines adopted technologies such as in-cylinder direct injection and turbocharging, higher requirements were placed on lubricants’ anti-oxidation performance, anti-wear performance, suppression of high-temperature deposits, energy-saving performance and resistance to low-speed pre-ignition, and he also presented Kunlun Lubricant’s solutions. Guan Fei, senior engineer of the Additive Business Unit of PetroChina Kunlun Lubricant, gave a special report on “Development Trends of Long-Life Lubricants for Commercial Vehicles.” Guan Fei believes that the current development trend of commercial vehicle lubricants mainly depends on two factors — the policy orientation of energy saving and environmental protection and customers’ experience of products and services — and that future commercial vehicle lubricants will develop toward low viscosity, energy saving, long life and a better driving experience. Dr. Cheng Liang of the PetroChina Dalian Lubricant Research and Development Center gave a report titled “The Development History of Coolant Performance Evaluation Technology,” explaining in detail, from the perspective of national-standard coolant performance evaluation technology, the characteristics of evaluation technology and how different OEMs have made new improvements and developments to evaluation technology according to their own situations. Cheng Liang also introduced several new coolant evaluation technologies in his report.

Since its establishment in 2000, Kunlun Lubricant has firmly fulfilled its mission of raising the national level of lubrication, conducting technology R&D in a market-oriented way, adhering to a service concept that advances with the times and bringing new development ideas to the industry. The independently completed project “Preparation technology and industrial application of extreme-pressure anti-wear additives and packages for gear oils” rewrote the history of gear oil additives being long monopolized by foreign countries, showing the world the R&D strength of China’s lubricants; it proposed the ultra-long mileage solution, pairing three independently developed products — D12 long-life diesel engine oil, MTF18 long-life manual transmission oil and GL-5+ long-life heavy-duty vehicle gear oil — with the services of oil testing and long-life filters to provide an integrated “product + service” solution; and it achieved the upgrade from production-oriented to service-oriented and from platform-oriented to business-oriented, building a strategic pattern of coordinated development of the lubricant industry chain and providing the lubricant industry with a more forward-looking development approach.

Moving forward hand in hand, the future is promising. As the “Made in China 2025” strategy continues to deepen, China’s lubricant industry has entered a critical juncture of rapid development. As Mr. Gong Weijun, executive deputy general manager of PetroChina Lubricant Company, said in his opening speech, under the new circumstances lubricant enterprises need to continuously deepen cooperation with resource suppliers, channel service providers, technology R&D teams, brand promotion and other fields, jointly building a new ecosystem to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results and share development.
The forum also mapped out prospects for the sustained development of the lubricant industry, laying a solid foundation for better serving society. The development of Made in China cannot do without Chinese lubrication, and the development of China’s lubricant industry cannot do without win-win cooperation within the industry. 2018 is an important year for advancing the reform process; for China’s lubricant industry to occupy an important place on the international lubricant stage, the whole industry must move forward hand in hand, strengthen technical exchange and cooperation, truly grasp market needs and application opportunities, continuously improve service quality and boost industry upgrading.
