The 2017 Kunlun Lubricant Cup Annual Performance Car Awards Ceremony has come to a close, and the “2017 CCPC Lubricant Testing White Paper” has also been freshly released; Mr. Tang Zhongping, dean of the Lanzhou Lubricant Research and Development Center of PetroChina Kunlun Lubricant, gave his own assessment of this white paper.
The “Lubricant Testing White Paper” is an oil testing project led by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center with the participation of Kunlun Lubricant, based on the models entered in the “2017 China Car Performance Competition”; starting from the perspective of what automakers and consumers care about in lubricants, it conducts comparative tests between the original factory service oil and Kunlun Lubricant against the performance requirements of lubricants in fuel saving, cleanliness, wear and turbocharger protection. The white paper’s test environment and background are also both based on the 2017 China Car Performance Competition.
To ensure the rigor and accuracy of the oil test results, the testing was carried out in accordance with the “2017 China Car Performance Competition Rules,” with the testing process lasting several months, and adopting and referring to international, national and industry standards for lubricants.
As a lubricant technology practitioner, I hope this white paper can serve as important material for the industry and consumers in oil-purchasing assessment and analysis, promoting a deeper understanding of lubricants among consumers.
In Dean Tang Zhongping’s view, the release of this white paper will make a huge contribution to the industry and consumers, letting everyone clearly know what the reference standards for a high-quality lubricant are. The “2017 CCPC Lubricant Testing White Paper” used a combination of multiple testing methods to produce a detailed comparative analysis. The testing methods mainly include physicochemical tests, simulation tests and real-vehicle tests. The physicochemical experiment part tested the viscosity properties of the lubricant and the factors affecting and changing them; the simulation experiments tested the lubricant’s high-temperature anti-oxidation performance, energy-saving performance, low-temperature performance and anti-wear performance; the real-vehicle performance test part examined the vehicle’s various performance aspects under high temperature and extreme cold, which has very important reference value for consumers in understanding Kunlun Lubricant’s contribution to engine energy saving, clean protection, friction and wear.
With the arrival of China’s automobile era, consumers’ demands for the economy and comfort of driving keep rising; through our oil testing white paper, consumers will be provided with objective and true data reference for choosing lubricants. It is believed that with the release of the oil testing white paper, it will further promote and enhance Chinese consumers’ professional understanding of lubricants, guide Chinese car consumers to pay attention to the intrinsic quality of automobiles, promote the application of advanced lubricant technology and industry growth, and guide the healthy development of the lubricant industry.
After reading this lubricant white paper, Dean Tang Zhongping, as a senior technical expert in the field of PetroChina lubricants, said that as one of the participants in this test he was sincerely glad that Kunlun Lubricant performed this way: this is the result of the efforts of several generations of oil people, and also strong proof of China’s technological progress and the rise of science and technology. In the lubricant field we have broken the situation of monopoly by foreign brands and taken a place in the market.
Speaking of inspiration, this oil testing was conducted by alternating simulation experiments and real-vehicle experiments, making the testing approach more diverse and varied; this also offers Kunlun Lubricant’s technical research institutions another possibility for technical research and development. In the future, Kunlun Lubricant will carry out more joint testing and research projects with automotive research and other industry institutions, and through approaches similar to real-vehicle experiments — genuine, authentic lubricant testing — better provide consumers with reference for purchasing decisions.
