The Kunlun Brand Enters Emerging Fields: Robot Grease Ready to Launch

In recent years, with the rapid development of China's manufacturing industry, the artificial intelligence industry has become increasingly widespread. According to the latest statistics, global industrial robot orders in 2016 stood at 260,000 units with an installed base of nearly 1.8 million units. In 2016 China ranked first in the world with 330,000 industrial robots in operation. During the Two Sessions, President Xi Jinping also pointed out that robots, as the "pearl at the top of the manufacturing crown", have R&D, manufacturing and application that serve as an important indicator of a country's level of scientific and technological innovation and high-end manufacturing.
China's robot technology is mainly introduced from countries with well-developed automation such as Japan and Germany, and the reducer, as a core component, is basically dependent on imports. R&D on robot reducer grease in these countries started very early and their capabilities are formidable, and they have already formed a monopoly in China. For a long time there has been no substitute product for the grease that supports the normal operation of robots, and the extremely high price has seriously constrained the absorption and localization of the robot technology China introduced. Some experts from foreign enterprises even declared that China would not develop comparable products within 20 years, which shows just how hard it is to break the technological blockade in this specialized field.
In order to support the innovative development of the domestic robot industry, the Lanzhou Lubricant Research and Development Center of PetroChina's lubricant company, based on independent research and development technology, formally entered the field of industrial robot grease R&D in 2015, beginning its research and application efforts to localize robot grease.
The reducers used in industrial robots are mainly of two types: harmonic reducers and RV reducers. Relying on its deep accumulation of R&D strength built up over many years, the Lanzhou R&D Center has continuously strengthened exchanges and cooperation with leading robot enterprises, identified market entry points, fully understood customers' actual needs and pursued self-improvement with dedication on the road to cracking the independent core technology of robot grease. After more than two years of unremitting effort by researchers, laboratory research on two products – harmonic reducer grease and RV reducer grease – has now been completed. Sample research products have already been put into practical use tests at representative enterprises in the robot industry.
Continuous operation test data show that the robot grease independently developed by Kunlun Lubricants performs steadily, meets customers' usage requirements and is comparable in performance to foreign competing products. In the field of robot lubricating grease, PetroChina has broken the technical barriers set up by foreign-funded enterprises, successfully achieved a leap in high-end technology and is speeding forward to overtake on the curve.
"Without accumulating small steps, one cannot travel a thousand miles; without accumulating small streams, one cannot form rivers and seas." Although we started relatively late in the field of robot grease, Kunlun Lubricants, with a high sense of honour in creating value through science and technology and winning glory for the country, has unswervingly followed the path of independent innovation and achieved a major breakthrough in key technologies in just two years, taking a solid step for the localization of robot grease in China. This step is a step of painstaking effort by Kunlun Lubricants' scientific R&D personnel, and even more a substantial advance by the lubricant industry into high-end emerging fields. It is believed that in time, in this vast new field of robotics, a brilliant and gorgeous flower of Kunlun will bloom, bringing an even brighter spring to China's lubricant industry.
