The Fifth “Kunlun Cup” Badminton Tournament of the Lubricant Company Concludes Successfully in Karamay

On July 22, 2014, the fifth “Kunlun Cup” badminton tournament of the Lubricant Company officially opened in the “Pearl of the West,” Karamay, with 21 teams and 118 athletes from the company's subordinate units taking part. This tournament was hosted by the Lubricant Company's trade union and organized by the Karamay Lubricant Plant, with five events: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles, using group round-robin, knockout and final formats. On court, the athletes' agile figures, intense rallies and the shuttlecocks spinning through the air were a feast for the eyes. The badminton stars showed off their skills to the fullest, displaying clears, smashes and drop shots in masterly fashion, and the sweat-covered expressions and enthusiastic cheers became a beautiful sight inside the gymnasium.

The competition lasted three days and more than a hundred hard-fought matches, with the entire schedule completed on July 24. In the end, Mao Zhiquan and Li Ping of the Karamay Lubricant Plant won the mixed doubles championship, Li Ping and Li Guixia of the Karamay Lubricant Plant won the women's doubles championship, Tan Gang and Wang Xiaotao of the Daqing No. 1 Lubricant Plant won the men's doubles championship, and Tan Gang of the Daqing No. 1 Lubricant Plant and Liu Chunhua of the Lanzhou Lubricant R&D Center won the men's singles and women's singles championships respectively. Six units — the Daqing No. 2 Lubricant Plant, the Dalian Lubricant Plant, the North China Lubricant Sales Branch, the Central-South Lubricant Sales Branch, the Southwest Lubricant Sales Branch and the Karamay Lubricant Plant — won the title of civilized unit.
