Kunlun Lubrication has overcome the technical bottleneck in methanol engine lubrication.

The 0W-30 methanol-specific engine oil developed by Kunlun Lubricants for use in cold winters has successfully obtained OEM technical certification and began oil supply in October 2022. This is another achievement Kunlun Lubricants has made by starting with professional product research, successfully gaining dominance and a voice in the domestic methanol engine oil sector, and becoming the oil used for OEM methanol passenger vehicle factory filling and servicing. This achievement contributes Kunlun’s strength to the “dual-carbon” vision.
Automobiles contribute approximately one-quarter of global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions, and with the rapid increase in the number of automobiles, they are expected to account for one-third of total emissions by 2050. Currently, internal combustion engine vehicles powered primarily by fossil fuels still account for more than 90%. To achieve the “carbon neutrality” goal, various energy-saving and emission-reduction measures must be adopted at this stage to reduce carbon emissions generated by the combustion of fossil fuels such as gasoline and diesel.
To reduce dependence on external energy sources, diversify energy supplies, ensure energy security, and reduce carbon emissions in the automotive industry, vigorously developing methanol vehicles is currently a highly effective measure. Kunlun methanol engine oil starts with additive design and, based on the characteristics of methanol fuel and the differences in combustion products, has developed a specialized core additive suitable for methanol fuel. Through extensive selection and comparative testing, it has optimized an innovative product that can be used in the presence of methanol, formic acid, water, and other contaminants, solving the technical problems of poor tolerance and reduced protective performance of ordinary engine oils.
Based on the development prospects of methanol vehicles in China, Kunlun Lubricants continues to strengthen its cooperation with national brands and to enrich and expand its research into methanol engine oil products with OEMs. In addition, the Kunlun Lubricants next-generation methanol engine oil project has been launched, with plans to develop ultra-high-base-number dedicated methanol engine oil, aiming to continuously improve the quality of lubricants for methanol vehicles in China.
