On July 13, after ten days of selection, the company's youth English speech competition came to a successful close. With the theme 'Youth, Responsibility and the Oil Dream', the competition aimed to inspire young employees throughout the company to study English, build a platform for their growth and development and promote an overall improvement in the quality of the young workforce.
After the competition notice was issued, the Communist Youth League committees of all units organized actively and young employees signed up enthusiastically. On July 3, a preliminary selection of 18 contestants was held by video, with Yang Junjie, the company's deputy chief engineer, and relevant staff of the head office's departments invited to attend and two experts from within the group invited to serve as judges. During the competition the contestants spoke on the theme, combining their own work experience and feelings, expressing their love for the oil industry and for Kunlun, making clear the responsibility they bear and giving vent to their lofty ambition to devote themselves to the Kunlun cause. A question-and-answer session with the judges was included. The contestants' excellent speeches and answers showed the enthusiasm and standard of the company's young employees and won unanimous praise from the judges.
The preliminary round selected the top six contestants, and from July 10 to 13 training and the final were held in Beijing. During the training the competition speeches were organized several times, the judges offered suggestions for improvement on the contestants' problems, and the contestants helped one another and progressed together. On Saturday and Sunday the contestants gave up their rest and spontaneously got together to revise their scripts and rehearse their speeches. Their united, positive and diligent attitude showed the fine spirit of the company's young employees. In the end, through their efforts, Piao Jicheng of the Dalian R&D Center won the championship and Wang Jingsi of Daqing No. 2 Plant took second place. These two contestants will also represent the company at the seventh youth English speech competition of the Youth League committee directly under the group company.

Speaking about the competition, the contestants said they had gained a great deal. They said: 'Although it was a competition, what mattered more was the process of learning. We gained knowledge, felt the strength of the team and made friends. We hope to have more opportunities to take part in similar activities in the future, and we also hope the contestants who go through will win honour for the company!'
