Kunlun Lubricants Gear Oil achieves a new breakthrough in OEM applications

In October 2022, Kunlun Lubricant’s dedicated oils for industrial robots and new long-life vehicle gear oils achieved a technological breakthrough: the 300,000-kilometer 75W-90 energy-saving drive axle oil, 600,000-kilometer 75W-85 transmission oil, and 100,000-kilometer 75W-85 electric drive axle oil respectively met the oil requirements of JAC Motors, ABB industrial robots, and Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles, enhancing customers’ recognition and support for Kunlun gear oils and marking a new leap in the high cost-effectiveness, customization, and differentiated services of OEM gear oils.
In recent years, environmental regulations have become increasingly stringent. In particular, the “dual carbon” goals have accelerated the optimization of the energy and industrial manufacturing structure. Major automobile manufacturers are also accelerating their transformation, presenting unprecedented challenges for gear oil technology development. Large overseas lubricant companies have successively launched corresponding products, intensifying competition in emerging markets.
To better enhance the market competitiveness of Kunlun gear oil products under the new circumstances and expand mutually beneficial cooperation with OEMs in the industrial, new energy vehicle, and commercial vehicle fields, the research team of Kunlun Lubricants Industrial Oils Institute quickly launched the development of gear oil products suitable for the low-carbon requirements of vehicle manufacturers such as JAC and Dongfeng.
The challenge of specialized oil for industrial robot series lies in ensuring stable and efficient operation of the robot joints under conditions of high positioning accuracy, high shear, and low oil fill volume. This places very high demands on the oil’s load-carrying capacity, long service life, and low friction. The industrial oil team carried forward the spirit of tackling difficulties and ultimately overcame the challenges one by one. The oil was successfully applied to four ABB robots at JAC Motors, earning recognition from JAC Motors’ technical team.
From March to September 2022, Dongfeng successively submitted requirements to Kunlun Lubricants for three new long-life automotive gear oils. The industrial oil team responded promptly and pursued bold innovation and in-depth research. By designing a unique anti-wear, antioxidant, and rust-preventive system, it ultimately developed three high-end customized long-life automotive gear oil products and proprietary new compound additive formulation technology, achieving “synchronized advancement” in base oil research and application research. Among them, the energy-saving oil passed Dongfeng’s internal transmission-efficiency improvement test and gained Dongfeng’s recognition; the long-life transmission oil successfully passed validation in eight bench tests and met Dongfeng’s customized performance requirements; and the e-drive axle oil met the requirement of a failure level of no less than 9 under the stringent FZG (A10/16.6R/90) conditions. This represented a phased achievement in the low-carbon development of automotive gears and marked a new breakthrough in customized OEM gear oil services.
