On September 23, the group company held the "China National Petroleum Corporation Science, Technology and Informatisation Innovation Conference", to deeply study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important expositions on scientific and technological innovation, comprehensively summarise the group company's achievements in science, technology and informatisation during the 13th Five-Year Plan period and study and deploy the objectives, tasks and key measures for advancing scientific and technological innovation, digital transformation and intelligent development during the 14th Five-Year Plan and the medium and long term. Kunlun Lubricant has always insisted on "science and technology leading development, building the enterprise through technology and self-reliance" and has improved its R&D strength. Based on the three positioning pillars of "strengthening technology, improving services and expanding the brand", Kunlun Lubricant puts technological progress first, has always followed the path of scientific and technological innovation, has long attached importance to R&D investment and focuses on improving the enterprise's capacity for independent innovation.
It has four scientific research units - the Lanzhou Lubricant Research and Development Centre, the Dalian Lubricant Research and Development Centre, the Product Design Centre and the Testing and Evaluation Centre - fully guaranteeing the conduct of scientific research and innovation work.
It has established the position of chief scientist to stimulate the innovative enthusiasm of researchers. In December 2017, in line with the positioning requirement of "strengthening technology" and the development strategy of creating a new R&D engine, and in order to stimulate researchers' initiative and creativity and open up career development channels for technical talent, Kunlun Lubricant selected and appointed chief scientists, building a core research team represented by Fu Xisheng and formed in echelons of 3 chief technical experts, 12 enterprise technical experts and 30 first-level engineers, covering key fields such as hydraulic oils, gear oils, greases, engine oils, transformer oils and refrigeration oils, and taking the R&D of high-end lubricants as strong support for achieving scientific and technological self-reliance.
It has successively established 16 joint laboratories with well-known universities and enterprises such as Beijing Jiaotong University and TBEA, forming a cross-field collaborative innovation base and opening up the "last mile" between technology and market and between results and application.
Increasing research investment and promoting the transformation of results

Tackling key fields and mastering core technology
Since producing New China's first drop of domestic lubricant, Kunlun Lubricant has always insisted on independent R&D, innovation and exploration, breaking one technological monopoly after another and building a complete set of screening, analysis and evaluation method systems.
Focusing on tackling key core technologies, it successfully developed SP/GF-6 and CK-4 products, breaking through the key independent technologies for engine oils; its low-viscosity PAO industrial demonstration unit operated successfully, filling a domestic gap in mass production technology for high-quality low-viscosity PAO. It advocated and initiated the formulation of independent Chinese lubricant specifications, established the "China Standard Development Innovation Alliance for Engine Lubricants" and took part in creating China's first independent lubricant standard adopting an independent engine evaluation specification. The domestic application rate of its own technologies for single additives and compound additives is 75%; its synthesis technologies for ashless phenolic and amine antioxidants are at the domestic leading level and fully replace imports; and its synthesis processes for extreme-pressure anti-wear agents, antirust agents and organic friction modifiers are at the international advanced level.
In fields such as high-speed rail gear oil, UHV transformer oil and robot lubricating grease, it has broken the monopoly of foreign products and provides complete sets of lubrication solutions and comprehensive lubrication services, providing safe and reliable guarantees for China's industrial and military equipment.
