First in China! Kunlun Lubricant's Proprietary Technology Product Certified by the World's Largest Marine Low-Speed Engine Manufacturer

The 2025 China International Maritime Exhibition and Conference concluded today. As one of the most influential maritime events in the world, the four-day event showcased a number of new technologies in the shipping field. And recently, good news also arrived for Kunlun Lubricant's new marine oil products.
After a year of shipboard trials and rigorous evaluation, Kunlun Lubricant's independently developed high-performance low-BN cylinder oil 5040P passed the rigorous evaluation of Everllence (formerly MAN Energy Solutions), a globally renowned marine power system supplier, and officially obtained the authoritative Cat II certification for a new-generation marine cylinder oil. With this product, Kunlun Lubricant has broken the monopoly of foreign brands in the high-end marine cylinder oil field and has become the first company in China to master proprietary low-BN cylinder oil technology.
The Most Stringent Performance Evaluation for International Marine Cylinder Oils
As tackling climate change becomes a global consensus, the global shipping industry is transitioning toward green and low-carbon development. The International Maritime Organization's sulfur cap (IMO2020) explicitly requires that, from 2020, the sulfur content of any fuel oil used on board ships must not exceed 0.5 percent m/m. Currently, the share of low-sulfur fuel oil at core international ports such as Singapore and Rotterdam has exceeded 60 percent.
During the combustion of low-sulfur fuel, large amounts of carbon deposits form between the piston rings and cylinder liners in the engine, requiring 40BN cylinder oils adapted to low-sulfur fuel to provide lubrication and stronger cleaning effects, so 40BN cylinder oils adapted to low-sulfur fuel have become the mainstream direction of the market. Currently, the Cat II certification established by Everllence for low-sulfur fuels and new marine engine technologies sets higher requirements for the detergency and dispersancy, anti-wear performance and acid neutralization capacity of marine cylinder oils; this certification is also the highest performance specification certification for marine cylinder oils internationally.

Cumulative 2,000 Hours of Smooth Operation with Controllable Parameters
Based on Cat II certification requirements, Kunlun Lubricant's high-performance low-BN cylinder oil 5040P needed to complete a full year of shipboard trials and rigorous review. With full confirmation by China Classification Society (CCS), Kunlun Lubricant formulated the shipboard trial plan and completed work including cylinder overhaul and cleaning, piston installation and modification of the lubricating oil system by cylinder. Throughout the shipboard trial, Kunlun Lubricant actively followed up on progress and took samples for testing on a regular basis, collecting 210 samples in total and monitoring nearly 1,000 sets of operating data to precisely track changes in cylinder oil feed rate and wear elements.
The shipboard trial for Cat II certification explicitly requires that the 40BN test oil used in the trial be comparable in overall performance to a 100BN reference oil. After overcoming the technical difficulty of excessive deposits in the use of low-sulfur fuel, the high-performance low-BN cylinder oil 5040P developed by Kunlun Lubricant achieved a number of new breakthroughs, with more comprehensive oil performance comparable to that of 100BN cylinder oil; over more than 2,000 cumulative hours of engine operation, the ship's main engine always ran smoothly with stable and controllable parameters.
At the same time, in the global shipping industry's low-carbon transition, the high-performance low-BN cylinder oil 5040P offers broad adaptability, matching the dual-fuel main engines of new green energy ships powered by LNG, methanol and ammonia and meeting the lubrication needs of low-carbon and zero-carbon new energy ship engines.
