On June 25, Daqing Oilfield held an on-site conference on specialized equipment lubrication, comprehensively reviewing its cooperation with the Lubricant Company on specialized equipment lubrication since March this year and promoting its successful practices. This marks that, after several months of cooperation between the Lubricant Company and Daqing Oilfield, the specialized equipment lubrication service has won the recognition of Daqing Oilfield and the market is steadily and solidly expanding.

Reassuring users: professionals do professional work
If equipment is compared to the human body, then lubricant is like the blood. Surveys show that at least 60% of equipment failures are caused by poor lubrication, and lubrication is crucial to equipment operation. At present, Daqing Oilfield has 265,000 units (sets) of equipment of various kinds, with an original value of 54.8 billion yuan. Reducing repairs and achieving maintenance-free operation in order to cut costs and raise equipment utilization has become the focus of equipment management.
In March this year, Daqing Oilfield and the Lubricant Company signed an agreement on cooperation in specialized lubrication, designating the Second Drilling Company of the Drilling Engineering Company and the No. 4 Oil Production Plant as pilot units, aiming to improve equipment operation quality and efficiency through specialized services. The Lubricant Company and Daqing Oilfield have a long history of cooperation, but this specialized oil cooperation has undoubtedly opened a new channel for the Lubricant Company. The Lubricant Company must turn the pilot units into benchmarks and demonstrations and promote them across the oilfield, thereby expanding the influence of the Kunlun brand.
To let users gain a full understanding of the “Kunlun brand,” the Daqing No. 2 Lubricant Plant invited relevant oilfield personnel to visit the plant and also went into oilfield enterprises to promote “Kunlun” lubricants. Leveraging the Lubricant Company's R&D advantages and letting technology and data speak, it created distinctive oils tailored to different equipment and carried out on-site metered handover. With professional equipment and professional personnel, it performed the “three-step” routine of extraction, cleaning and oil change well, delivering specialized service.
First-class product quality, top technical advantages, a professional service level and advanced oil-change concepts gave the oilfield a completely new understanding of Kunlun lubricants.
Li Tao is the team leader of the Beiliu oil production team of the No. 1 Mine of the No. 4 Oil Production Plant. He has worked in the oil production team for more than 20 years and has personally been involved in pumping-unit oil changes many times. But after watching the Lubricant Company's professional service once, he said: “The Lubricant Company's specialized oil change is more standard in operation, more standardized in procedure, more complete in service and more assured in quality.”

Making users feel cared for: “bespoke” lubrication solutions
Implementing specialized equipment lubrication is a change in management approach. Changing from the previous time-based replacement to quality-based replacement lets equipment that needs an oil change receive “timely rain” and ensures efficient operation.
On March 9, the Daqing No. 2 Lubricant Plant set up the “Oilfield Specialized Oil Project Team.” Preliminary research began on March 20. The Dalian R&D Center sent an expert group to test the oils of five oil mines of the No. 4 Oil Production Plant and 15 drilling teams of the Second Drilling Company. Based on the types and quantities of oil used by different equipment, it took stock of equipment conditions. After full and comparative analysis of oil samples of in-use and new oils, it found that Kunlun lubricants' indicators were comprehensively superior to the oils in use. It conducted a technical briefing with the other party and established basic equipment information and equipment ledgers. At the same time, because oil production plants and drilling teams have different filling characteristics, different filling trucks were equipped, along with cleaning, waste-oil extraction and filling equipment.
Drilling teams used to change oil seasonally and by experience, with winter and summer oils and arbitrary replacement. After sampling the drilling teams' oils, the Lubricant Company carried out testing of six oil parameters, adjusted viscosity indicators and tailor-made an all-season oil to be changed once a year, and it clarified that whether to change the oil should be determined by test results, giving the drilling teams a scientific basis for oil changes, achieving quality-based oil changes and oil cost savings of more than 10%.
For the lubrication of pumping units, 12 operating procedures were drawn up covering oil performance indicators, quality standards, quality verification, metering methods, gearbox cleaning and waste-oil recovery. The pumping-unit oil previously filled at the No. 4 Oil Production Plant was highly universal and poorly targeted, usable in many small pieces of equipment, and oil loss had occurred. In response, the Daqing No. 2 Lubricant Plant joined hands with the No. 1 Lubricant Plant to tailor a No. 100 pumping-unit-specific oil for the No. 4 Oil Production Plant, ensuring the safety of oil use. Yan Liming, director of the equipment management department of the No. 4 Oil Production Plant, said: “The products the Lubricant Company tailor-made for us achieve high-quality lubrication for our equipment, and the personalized service makes us feel more cared for.”
Saving users worry: value-for-money “butler-style” service
Across the vast area of Daqing Oilfield, 50,724 pumping units are scattered like stars, with well access roads criss-crossing; to an outsider, finding one of those wells is like looking for a needle in the ocean. But for Zheng Yongjun, who is in charge of the oil-change team for the No. 4 Oil Production Plant, it is not difficult — he can quickly find the location of every well.
Zhang Zhuo is the leader of the oil-change team responsible for the Second Drilling Company. When he was first met, he was at the 30126 drilling team site with three colleagues; continuous rain had made the site muddy and the filling truck could not get in, so they carried oil in 30-liter drums on their backs one by one. Rainwater mixed with sweat quickly soaked through their work clothes. In the rainy season, carrying oil to the wells has become the norm; so far they have delivered oil to 27 drilling teams, carrying 15 tons on their backs, without ever holding up production.
Whatever job you do, you must master it! And in service, you must save the user worry! The Lubricant Company proposed a “butler-style” service, established contact cards and provides specialized service 24 hours a day, completely changing the previous “extensive” approach of oil users changing oil themselves.
A file is created for every oil well to track equipment operation. After an oil change, a follow-up visit is made within one month to re-inspect the oil. During a follow-up visit to a hydraulic pump at one drilling team, the mud pump was also quality-checked and it was found that there was no lubricant left in the mud pump; if it had run dry, the equipment would have been damaged. Yet by experience the equipment was not due for an oil change — the timely quality check averted a major equipment accident, saving the drilling team more than 700,000 yuan in economic losses.
In the course of changing oil for the drilling teams, it was found that the oil seal model of a diesel engine did not match the equipment, the seal was not tight, and contaminants could easily enter the fuel tank and affect oil quality. They contacted the Second Drilling Company in time, and the other party adopted the suggestion and promptly modified the oil seal.
At present, the Daqing No. 2 Lubricant Plant has provided 24-hour, round-the-clock “butler-style” service to 30 drilling teams of the Second Drilling Company and 380 pumping units of the No. 4 Oil Production Plant, supplying 95 tons of oil.
Zhang Shande, head of the asset section of the Second Drilling Company, said: “With their professional quality and value-for-money service, the workers of the Daqing No. 2 Lubricant Plant have given us a sense of reassurance. This specialized service replaces the previous way of delivering and changing oil and can save us more than 1 million yuan in costs every year.”
Yan Hong, chief accountant of Daqing Oilfield, who is in charge of this work, spoke highly of the Lubricant Company's work. He said that the No. 2 Lubricant Plant has a glorious tradition, a strong service awareness and a very high professional level, and has done a great deal of work in both personnel and equipment allocation. It is precisely because of the Lubricant Company's product quality, work style and meticulous service that units in Daqing Oilfield have successively approached the No. 2 Plant to discuss cooperation; as the cooperation between the two sides deepens further, the prospects will certainly become ever broader. The quality and effectiveness of the specialized service are becoming increasingly evident at Daqing Oilfield. Recently, the Daqing No. 2 Lubricant Plant has been in cooperation talks with the Downhole Operation Branch, the Chemical Group and the Power Group, and has entered the stage of preliminary technical exchange and scheme design, with the work advancing steadily.
