Kunlun Lubricant's Lanzhou R&D Center Completes Development of Methanol-Gasoline Engine Oil

To implement the requirements of the national scientific development concept, new fuels such as methanol are gradually gaining attention and being promoted, and Kunlun Lubricant has been continuously researching supporting lubricants to suit the special properties of new fuels. Most recently, a lubricant for methanol gasoline was successfully developed by its Lanzhou R&D Center.
Testing shows that the SJ methanol-gasoline engine lubricant developed by Kunlun Lubricant fully meets the lubrication requirements of methanol-gasoline engines. In cooperation with Shanxi Jiaxin Energy and Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., the new lubricant was used in road driving trials on methanol-gasoline (M100) taxis. Over a test distance of 12,000 km, this new lubricant demonstrated better acid neutralization and alkalinity retention capacity than ordinary engine oil, as well as better oxidation resistance, wear resistance and demulsification performance. No abnormalities occurred in the methanol-gasoline engine during the trials, and all other analytical indicators of the lubricant remained within the reasonable oil change interval. The experiments confirmed that development of the new lubricant suitable for methanol gasoline was a success and can be put into wide application.
As a new type of alternative fuel, methanol gasoline is already widely used in Shanxi and other regions of China. However, methanol vehicles generally suffer from difficult cold starting, and the by-products of methanol combustion are highly acidic and easily aggravate engine wear. Methanol-gasoline engines therefore place high demands on lubricants: in addition to good lubrication performance, the oil must have a higher total base number and base retention, better wear resistance and demulsification performance, among other demanding requirements. At present, there is still a gap in the domestic market for lubricants matched to such engines. The successful development of Kunlun Lubricant's dedicated methanol-gasoline lubricant fills precisely that gap, advances the emergence of supporting products for new fuels and also contributes to the promotion and application of new fuels.
