The China Lubrication Technology Forum (2021) Concludes Successfully

On December 11, the China Lubrication Technology Forum (2021), co-hosted by the editorial departments of "Lubricating Oil" and "Lubrication and Sealing" and co-organised by the PetroChina Lubricant Key Laboratory, was successfully held as an online livestream. Themed "High-Quality Development of China's Lubricant Industry Driven by Dual Carbon", this year's forum focused on frontier trends and scientific research results in the lubricant field, gathered strength for industrial upgrading and jointly sought the blueprint for the lubricant industry, attracting nearly one hundred domestic and international industry experts and scholars from lubricants, additives, automobiles and internal combustion engines.
From 1987 to 2021, with the purpose of "run by lubricant people, hosted by lubricant people and serving lubricant people", the China Lubrication Technology Forum has witnessed the development of China's lubricant industry and is a bellwether of China's lubricant technology development. This year's forum was the first held online since its establishment and was livestreamed free of charge through all-media channels such as Weibo, Douyin and Xiaoe Tong in a format of multiple platforms, multiple connections and multi-dimensional interaction, allowing guests and viewers to break through the limits of time and space and discuss together "in the cloud" the high-quality development of China's lubricant industry driven by dual carbon. The forum had more than 1,200 registered participants and more than 400 registered companies, received more than 70 papers, released 15 heavyweight industry reports and attracted 53,700 online views.
Gaining insight into industry trends and discussing the industry's mission
Achieving the "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" goals requires a broad and profound transformation of the existing social and economic system. Industrial enterprises are the main force in energy consumption, and lubricants are the "blood" of industrial equipment. Developing industrial tribology and lubrication technology and applying intelligent technology to improve the reliability of equipment lubrication, reduce wear and lower oil consumption is one of the important paths to help industrial enterprises achieve the "dual carbon goals" and also an important lever for safeguarding the safe and reliable operation of industrial equipment and promoting the high-quality development of industrial enterprises.
In his speech, Tang Zhongping, Chief Engineer of the company, mentioned that since its founding the China Lubrication Technology Forum has upheld the original intention of building a platform for scientific and technological exchange in China's lubricant and related industries and is committed to making the forum a platform and window for exchange within the industry and between China and the world. At this great moment of the convergence of two centenaries, this year's forum, around the theme "High-Quality Development of China's Lubricant Industry Driven by Dual Carbon", discussed the technological problems urgently needing to be tackled in green development and related industrial chains and explored new paths for cross-field scientific and technological exchange and cooperation, helping China's lubricant industry achieve scientific and technological self-reliance.

The forum conducted extensive and in-depth exchanges and discussions on new issues and trends in the high-quality development of China's lubricant industry driven by dual carbon, market demand, and the R&D and application of high-end lubricants (greases), with several heavyweight industry figures sharing reports on related topics.
Zhou Feng, deputy director of the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication, shared progress on ionic liquid lubricants and supramolecular gel lubricants, the creation of ionic lubricant additives and their engineering applications.
He Shizhong, chief expert of China National Machinery Industry Corporation, director of the National and Local Joint Engineering Research Centre for Industrial Tribology and Lubrication Technology, deputy chief engineer of SINOMACH Intelligence Technology Co., Ltd. and deputy general manager of the Guangzhou Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, gave a keynote report titled "Creating an Equipment Lubrication Health System Based on Oil Monitoring".
Taking technology as the core and leading the industry with innovation

Wang Dong, deputy director of the base oil institute of the PetroChina Dalian Lubricant Research and Development Centre, gave a report titled "Discussion of the Current Situation and Development of Re-refined Base Oils under the Dual Carbon Background", discussing with the audience the importance of re-refined base oils in the carbon emissions of the lubricant life cycle.
Jin Peng of the PetroChina Lanzhou Lubricant Research and Development Centre - a PetroChina senior technical expert, outstanding young innovative talent and leader of a science and technology innovation team - gave a keynote report titled "Independent Technology Development of Kunlun Diesel Engine Oils", analysing and discussing the development of long oil change interval diesel engine oils.

Scientific and technological innovation is the primary driving force for achieving green and low-carbon energy development.
