Kunlun Lubricant Cup “China Heart” 2017 Top Ten Engines Announced

On November 30, 2017, the Kunlun Lubricant Cup “China Heart” 2017 Top Ten Engines Award Ceremony was held at the Renaissance Shanghai Yangtze Hotel. Ten engines from 12 automakers — FAW-Volkswagen, FAW-Volkswagen Audi, SAIC Volkswagen, FAW Toyota, GAC Toyota, Changan Mazda, SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle, SAIC-GM Buick, Great Wall Motor, Changan Automobile, JAC Motors and Geely Automobile — were named “China Heart” 2017 Top Ten Engines. Among them, FAW Toyota and GAC Toyota share one engine, while the two 2.0T engines from FAW-Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen Audi both originate from the Volkswagen Group and have a similar overall structure, so they too were grouped into a single award. The two winning companies, JAC Motors and SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle, also donated engines to universities to support industry-academia-research cooperation.
Guests attending the ceremony included Wang Binggang, expert of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Major Special Project on New Energy Vehicles; Song Yanguang, former chief engineer of Dongfeng Motor Corporation; Sun Shuhao, deputy general manager of PetroChina Lubricant Company, and Yang Junjie, deputy chief engineer of the same company; Hou Fushen, deputy secretary-general of the Society of Automotive Engineers of China; Yang Huanshan, deputy secretary-general of the China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association; Feng Mingzhi, deputy secretary-general of the Chinese Society for Internal Combustion Engines; Wang Jianxin, professor of Tsinghua University and director of the expert review committee for the “China Heart” annual Top Ten Engines selection; Yao Chunde, professor of Tianjin University and deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Engines; Xu Min, professor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and dean of the Institute of Automotive Engineering; Wang Yang, deputy general manager of China National Machinery Industry International Co., Ltd.; Li Zanfeng, chairman and general manager of CATARC Yancheng Automotive Proving Ground Co., Ltd.; Gui Junsong, editor-in-chief of China Automotive News; and Zhou Lijuan, publisher of Auto & Sport magazine, together with more than 100 senior executives of the winning automakers.
Launched in 2006 and organized by Auto & Sport magazine, the “China Heart” annual Top Ten Engines selection is now in its twelfth edition. As the only domestic automotive powertrain award with international influence, the “China Heart” Top Ten Engines has won unanimous recognition and high praise from the auto industry, consumers and professional media, and together with “Ward’s 10 Best Engines” and “International Engine of the Year” it is known as one of the world’s top three engine awards.
Auto & Sport has spared no effort and pursued excellence in running the selection and each of its related themed sub-events, creating a platform that encourages positive competition among companies. According to Zhou Lijuan, publisher of Auto & Sport, in the Year of the Rooster the “China Heart” evaluation system achieved several innovations: first, a long-term jury experience session was added to the open selection to strengthen jurors’ subjective impressions of vehicle use; second, automaker engineers were added to accompany vehicles during real-vehicle testing, helping jurors better understand each shortlisted product through professional briefings during static assessment and through interaction during dynamic experience; third, KOL (key opinion leader) jurors were added in step with the times, diversifying the spread of information.

An increasingly professional and increasingly authoritative “China Heart” annual Top Ten Engines selection also depends on the strong support of its partners. As the full-event supporting organization of the “China Heart” program, Kunlun Lubricant has consistently worked in tandem with the auto industry and cooperated with automakers and related organizations, supporting the development of China’s auto industry in many aspects. This year marks the eighth consecutive year that Kunlun Lubricant has supported the program, and Kunlun Tianrun series passenger-car oil once again served as the professional oil for the real-vehicle test.
