On November 15, the Dongfeng hybrid engine bench, the G1 gasoline engine oil China proprietary standard specification test engine led by the China Standard Development Innovation Alliance for Engine Lubricating Oil and built by Kunlun Lubrication, achieved its first successful ignition at the Lanzhou evaluation room of Kunlun Lubrication's Testing and Evaluation Center, marking a solid step taken by Kunlun Lubrication to advance the development of the G1 gasoline engine oil specification national standard system.
Forward-looking layout promotes the implementation of the G1 gasoline engine oil specification national standard
Standards are an important symbol of the high-quality development of an industry; they can not only establish a complete evaluation system for products, but also set the direction of progress for the industry. At present, China's gasoline engine technology has achieved independence, and hybrid gasoline engine technology in particular is at an internationally leading level. However, the standard discourse power of the lubricating oil industry has always been held by foreign brands. Therefore, developing a gasoline engine oil standard that meets the lubrication needs of China's independently developed engines is extremely urgent.
The development of China standards for lubricating oil was first advocated by Kunlun Lubrication in 2016, with the purpose of solving the core problem of the lack of proprietary standards for Chinese engine lubricating oil.
In recent years, the level of independent R&D in China's gasoline engine industry has continuously made breakthroughs and the market share of independent brands has continued to climb. Because the technical characteristics, operating conditions, environment and fuels of domestic gasoline engines differ to a certain extent from those abroad, and in particular because China's hybrid gasoline engine technology has reached a world-leading level and has special performance requirements for lubricating oil, there is an urgent need to use engines with proprietary technology to carry out research work on bench evaluation standard methods and to establish a passenger vehicle lubricating oil standard suitable for the lubrication of Chinese gasoline engines.
Innovative model builds an engine bench test base
In May 2023, the 13th and 14th expert group (enlarged) meetings of the China Standard Development Innovation Alliance for Engine Lubricating Oil were successfully held. The meetings mainly held lively discussions on the selection of engine models and evaluation items for the development of the G1 and NG1 bench method standards, the technical characteristics of natural gas engines and their lubrication needs, the formation plan of the G1 specification gasoline engine oil bench method development working group, and the formation plans of the NG1 natural gas engine oil product standard working group and the bench method development standard working group.
As one of the member units of the China Standard Development Innovation Alliance for Engine Lubricating Oil, and on the basis of comprehensive lubricating oil testing and evaluation based on China's proprietary standards, Kunlun Lubrication undertook the construction of the Dongfeng hybrid engine bench for the G1 gasoline engine oil China proprietary standard specification. For this bench test, Kunlun Lubrication's Testing and Evaluation Center, through the overall 2+N engine selection approach determined by the alliance, actively integrated the bench test resources of Lanzhou and Dalian, and relocated the SAIC engine bench equipment of the Dalian evaluation room to the Lanzhou evaluation room to build the test bench required for the G1 proprietary gasoline engine oil specification. To ensure the smooth ignition of this bench test, after the hardware of the Dalian SAIC engine bench platform was relocated to the Lanzhou evaluation room, the technical task force actively communicated with Dongfeng engineers and successively carried out auxiliary system modification, customized control systems and bench commissioning, and installed and tested the engine's temperature and pressure measurement points; Dongfeng engineers also repeatedly checked each system and confirmed them step by step. The successful ignition of the engine laid the foundation for the next step of reproducibility evaluation tests and provided strong technical support for the construction of the G1 engine bench test base.
Next, Kunlun Lubrication will continue to give play to its role as a mainstay of the lubrication industry, cooperate with more domestic and foreign automotive OEMs in joint R&D, actively promote the establishment of the G1 gasoline engine oil specification national standard system, further improve China's proprietary lubricating oil specification standard system, and boost the high-quality development of China's engine and lubricating oil industries.
