Annual review meeting of Basic Research on Lubricating and Anti-Wear Materials under Harsh Environments. On December 24, 2009, the 2009 annual work summary meeting of the National Key Basic Research and Development Program (973 Program) project Basic Research on Lubricating and Anti-Wear Materials under Harsh Environments, in which the Lanzhou R&D Center participates, was held in Beijing under the chairmanship of the project's chief scientist, researcher Liu Weimin. Xu Xiaohong and Li Jiusheng from the Lanzhou R&D Center were invited to attend. Breaking through the technical bottleneck of lubricating and anti-wear materials under extremely harsh environmental conditions and promoting the development of China's lubricating and anti-wear material technology has become one of the major basic scientific issues urgently needing resolution in China's high technology, energy and resources fields. As the first major basic research project in China's tribology field, the goal of Basic Research on Lubricating and Anti-Wear Materials under Harsh Environments is precisely to solve the basic scientific problems of high-performance lubricating and anti-wear materials under a number of extremely harsh environments, to establish a basic tribological theory (friction, wear and lubrication) adapted to extremely harsh environments and conditions, and to produce a batch of preparation technologies for lubricating and anti-wear materials that can safeguard major national engineering projects and important national defense equipment. As a partner unit, the Lanzhou R&D Center actively participated in the project's basic research work, jointly undertaking with Henan University the sixth sub-project, Molecular Design, Structural Regulation and Preparation Technology of High-Performance Lubricating and Anti-Wear Materials. Using this as a supporting platform, over the past three years it has concentrated on the molecular design, preparation and characterization, performance evaluation and application research of high-performance lubricating and anti-wear materials such as nano-TiO2, nano-borates and nano-SiO2. By the end of 2009, it had published 6 SCI papers and more than 10 papers in domestic core journals, and had presented 3 papers at international conferences, not only building up technical reserves for improving the intrinsic quality of Kunlun Lubricant but also expanding the influence of the Kunlun brand.
