Sixth Kunlun Lubricant Award for the Ten National Good Samaritan Drivers Announced

On December 28, 2009, the sixth Kunlun Lubricant Award commendation ceremony for the ten national good Samaritan drivers was held at the Great Hall of the People. Funded by China National Petroleum Corporation, the event gave substantial awards to individuals and groups honored as the ten national good Samaritan drivers, national good Samaritan drivers and good Samaritan cities.
The Kunlun Lubricant Award selection for the ten national good Samaritan drivers is hosted by the China Foundation for Justice and Courage and China National Petroleum Corporation and undertaken by PetroChina Lubricant Company and Modern Driver Newspaper. After six years of cultivation, the selection has become a brand public welfare activity with social influence. Governments at all levels and the general public have shown ever greater attention and participation, and the number of commended good Samaritan drivers has reached 304 person-times, playing a positive guiding role in promoting the spirit of courage for justice and building a socialist harmonious society.
Leaders attending the ceremony included Jia Chunwang, Chairman of the China Foundation for Justice and Courage; Cai Anji, member of the Party Committee and Director of the Political Department of the Ministry of Public Security; Li Shuntao, Executive Vice Chairman of the China Foundation for Justice and Courage; and Wang Fucheng, Deputy General Manager of China National Petroleum Corporation, who cordially met the ten good Samaritan drivers before the ceremony. The ceremony awarded the honorary title of national ten good Samaritan drivers to Chen Liwen, Chen Yongsheng, Wang Jianjun, Zhang Haijuan, Tang Honggang, Li Lei, Liu Xueqing, Li Hongjun, Yu Zhiquan and Tian Xiaoguang, with prizes of 30,000 yuan each; awarded the honorary title of national good Samaritan driver to 38 people including Yang Zhihui, and posthumously to Wu Zhangtao and Wu Rigen, with prizes of 10,000 yuan each. Twenty cities including Nanping in Fujian Province and Baishan in Jilin Province received city awards, 10 units including the Ningde Good Samaritan Association of Fujian Province received organization awards, and 10 units including Wanshun Taxi Co., Ltd. of Fuding, Fujian Province received unit awards.
The scope of this year's selection covered 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, making it the widest in participation in the six years of the activity. This year's selection received strong support from local governments and good Samaritan organizations. People across the country responded enthusiastically, voting by mail, online and by text message to nominate the driver heroes of their choice, and the judging committee received more than 8.5 million votes in total.
In addition, since the fourth selection in 2007, the judging committee has established a caring account to help award winners who encounter difficulties in life or again perform courageous acts. In August 2009, the organizers also arranged for the first and second national ten good Samaritan drivers to recuperate in Beidaihe, expressing lasting care for these good Samaritan drivers.
In his speech, Cai Anji, member of the Party Committee and Director of the Political Department of the Ministry of Public Security, stressed the need to earnestly implement the instructions of Party and state leaders, further strengthen the sense of mission, responsibility and urgency in the work, and truly give good Samaritan work a more prominent position and grasp it firmly. He called for greater publicity efforts to create a good social atmosphere, better pensions and preferential treatment for good Samaritan personnel with sound long-term mechanisms, protection of the legitimate rights and interests of good Samaritan personnel, and effective measures to mobilize the public to maintain public order and fight all kinds of disasters and accidents. He hoped that more socially responsible enterprises and social organizations like PetroChina would care for and support good Samaritan personnel with concrete actions and strive to form a good atmosphere across society of caring for and cherishing good Samaritan heroes. Drivers are the main consumer group at PetroChina's sales terminals and a vital force in maintaining public order. Through this selection activity, PetroChina offers care to drivers who are on the road all year round and have more opportunities than others to encounter public order incidents, an important manifestation of practicing PetroChina's corporate purpose of dedicating energy and creating harmony. At the same time, PetroChina will continue to uphold this concept and continuously provide customers and the public with quality petroleum and lubricant products and prompt, thoughtful services.
