The Sixth "Kunlun Lubricant Award" National Top Ten Good Samaritans Among Drivers Selection Launched
On June 11, 2009, the sixth "Kunlun Lubricant Award" National Top Ten Good Samaritans Among Drivers selection activity, jointly sponsored by the China Foundation for Justice and Courage and China National Petroleum Corporation, was formally launched in Beijing. This is the sixth consecutive year that PetroChina (Kunlun) Lubricant Company has provided exclusive funding to support the National Top Ten Good Samaritans Among Drivers selection, and it is also an important action by a large state-owned energy enterprise in practising corporate social responsibility, promoting the spirit of courageous action, caring for the driving community and contributing to a harmonious society.
Leaders attending the launch ceremony included Li Shuntao, vice chairman of the China Foundation for Justice and Courage; Liu Jiawei, deputy director of the Publicity Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security; Guo Yuying, secretary-general of the China Foundation for Justice and Courage; Li Runsheng, assistant to the general manager and director of the General Office of China National Petroleum Corporation; and Liao Guoqin, general manager of PetroChina (Kunlun) Lubricant Company.
In recent years, as the process of building a socialist harmonious society has continued to advance, the spirit of courageous action has been continuously promoted, and heroes of courageous action have become a group respected and cherished by society. In order to reward heroes of courageous action, promote social integrity and foster social harmony, the organisers decided that in this year's sixth selection activity, 10 "Kunlun Lubricant Award" National Top Ten Good Samaritans Among Drivers will be selected, each receiving 30,000 yuan, with an additional 20,000 yuan for those who sacrificed their lives; and 40 "Kunlun Lubricant Award" National Good Samaritans Among Drivers will be selected, each receiving 10,000 yuan. In addition, the selection activity will also award 20 city awards, 10 organization awards and 10 unit awards. After stages including the collection of deeds and public selection, this year's selection will finally announce all the awards at the end of November. In addition, the "'Kunlun Lubricant Award' Good Samaritans Among Drivers Care Account" established by the judging panel in 2007 will continue to follow the work and living conditions of award-winning good Samaritan drivers and bring lasting care to these heroes.
The "Kunlun Lubricant Award" National Top Ten Good Samaritans Among Drivers selection activity, jointly sponsored by the China Foundation for Justice and Courage and China National Petroleum Corporation, began in 2004 and is aimed at the community of drivers who act courageously; five editions have been held successfully so far. In the fifth selection activity in 2008, the number of public votes reached more than 33.7 million, and this selection has gradually become deeply rooted in people's hearts, with a broad public base and social influence. At present, the number of commended good Samaritan drivers across the country has reached 253; the winners come from all walks of life, forming a hero group of a certain scale and becoming models for all sectors of society to learn from.
Li Runsheng, director of the General Office and assistant to the general manager of China National Petroleum Corporation, said that the number of people holding motor vehicle driving licences in China has now reached 184 million, and the driving community, being highly mobile and having many opportunities to encounter public security incidents, has increasingly become a new force in safeguarding public order. China National Petroleum is an integrated upstream and downstream energy company, and its more than 18,000 service stations across the country provide standardised refuelling service to an average of 5 million driver visits every day; Kunlun Lubricant, as a Chinese top brand, is gradually becoming the first choice of many drivers. While providing quality products and quality service, China National Petroleum Corporation also does what it can to give drivers more tangible assistance. The National Top Ten Good Samaritans Among Drivers selection is a very good point of entry: by commending good Samaritan drivers and celebrating their heroic deeds, it further promotes social integrity and displays the fine moral standards and spiritual outlook of today's Chinese drivers.
